Wolverhampton Wanderers Complete Club Record Signing of Fábio Silva

Fábio Silva

Wolverhampton Wanderers have a plethora of Portuguese talent to turn to when seeking a standout performance.

Rúben Neves and João Moutinho keep things ticking over in midfield; Diogo Jota brings both the goals and link up play; Pedro Neto provides much needed youthful energy from the bench alongside Daniel Podence.

And Rui Patricio, alongside Rúben Vinagre, helps to provide the clean sheets. Now, to add the cherry on top of the Portuguese cake, Wolves have signed 18-year-old Fábio Silva.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee is around £40 million, plus add ons. Silva has signed a deal until June 2025.

Wolves Sign Fábio Silva

Fábio Silva: One for the Future

The Porto youngster often heralded as the next big thing in Portugal mainly operates in the centre forward role. He has already gained crucial experience in the Europa League- the competition Wolves will play in this season- alongside 12 appearances in the Liga Nos where he scored on one occasion.

The 18-year-old comes at a hefty price, yes, but, considering the heights he has already reached, the price should be worth it in the end. Silva will look to take the 14 goal involvements in all competitions from last season into the Premier League and Europa League with Wolves this season.

Chance to Learn from the Best

Fábio Silva has the chance to learn from the best. By joining Wolves, he’ll have the opportunity to watch Raúl Jiménez on a daily basis and, in time, learn from him.

Playing alongside the Mexican will only improve his ability, too, as he looks to break into the first team as soon as possible. Wolves will once again be a team to keep an eye on this season as they continue to build for both the present and future.

What Was Said?

With the deal now complete, Jeff Shi, the Executive Chairman at Wolves, told the club website the following:

“We’ve been following Fabio’s development for a long time. He’s a player that you only need several minutes to see his natural football talent. In recent years, Fabio has been developing very fast and now has proven himself in Porto’s first team, which is a top squad.

“Our head coach’s requirement for quality is very high, but he thinks Fabio is an important signing who will help the team immediately this season.

“The timing of this deal is similar to the timing of when we bought Ruben Neves; we’ve waited for the right time to get a high-quality player at the right price.”
