Ben Chilwell Shines for England at Left-Back in Win Against Montenegro

Ben Chilwell registered a 24-minute hat-trick of assists to help England on their way to thrashing Montenegro at Wembley. The Leicester City left-back showed that he will be one of the first names in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020.

Dominant on the Left-Flank

Helped by the high-press deployed by Gareth Southgate, Ben Chilwell was dominant on the left flank for England. The 22-year-old spent much of the game camped in the Montenegro half, and the visitors could not cope with marauding youngster.

Time and time again Chilwell was involved in England’s attack. He was instrumental in several attacks that did not lead to goals, paying testament the attacking ability he shows at club level.

However, it wasn’t just from open play that he shone; Chilwell’s set pieces were also a noticeable asset. A beautifully placed free-kick found the head of Harry Kane for England’s second. In similar fashion, a perfectly timed run from Kane meant he found himself on the end of a corner kick from Ben Chilwell to register England’s third.

Ben Chilwell – First Name in England’s Squad for Next Summer?

Another major tournament is just around the corner for England, and Ben Chilwell is likely to be one of the first names in the squad, amongst the likes of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

When in-form, Chilwell is certainly England’s best left-back. He presents a threat a consistent and all round threat in attack, while presenting a more solidified defensive approach in comparison to Danny Rose.

Should Chilwell continue his electrifying form, Leicester City may find it tough to keep their academy starlet. Clubs further up in the Premier League and European hierarchy will come calling, as he continue to stake his claim as one of the best left-backs in Europe.
