Everton Duo Sign for Sunderland

Sunderland today announced the signings of the Everton duo Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway on loan until the end of the season.

New Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has wasted little time in entering he transfer market. It has been announced that Everton youngster Tyias Browning has followed Brendan Galloway in arriving at the Stadium of Light on loan until the end of the season. The Everton duo are Grayson’s first forays into the transfer market as he attempts to bolster his squad ahead of the new season, which begins in just a few short weeks.

Galloway was the first to be announced late on Wednesday afternoon. Browning followed on Friday afternoon. More signings are expected in the coming days and weeks as Grayson attempts to get Sunderland back to the Premier League.

Brendan Galloway

Like Browning, Galloway is a defender who can play in two positions. Primarily a left-back, he can also play in central defence. At 21, Galloway already has decent first team experience. He made his debut for his first club Milton Keynes Dons in 2011 aged just 15 years old.

In 2014 he signed for Everton and has played over 20 league and cup games for them. Last season he spent time on loan at West Bromwich Albion, but he managed to play just three games. Like Browning, Galloway has played for England at various levels including the under-21 side.

Both players bring a lot of promise and if they can show that and a desire to show Everton what they can do for Sunderland, then they should have a successful time on Wearside.

Tyias Browning

A defender who can play at either full-back or as a central defender, he will bring competition and versatility to the Black Cats defence. Browning, 23, has been at Everton for thirteen years but has so far failed to gain regular first team football at Goodison Park.

So far he has appeared just seven times for the Toffees. He did, however, gain more experience whilst on loan at Preston North End under Grayson last season. The manager should therefore know much about him and what he can bring to the Black Cats team.

Although he has little experience at club level, he has represented England at under-17, under-19 and under-20 levels. He will see this as an ideal opportunity to gain valuable experience and head back to Everton in a year a better player as a result.

Duo could soon become trio

With these deals completed and Jordan Pickford moving to Merseyside for £30 million last month, this may not be the last of the deals between the two clubs. Sunderland are reportedly in talks to bring Republic of Ireland international Aiden McGeady to the club on a permanent deal. The winger has been linked with Sunderland many times in the past and may finally be about to join. On loan at Preston North End last season, McGeady knows the new Sunderland manager well. After a successful time at Deepdale, he could be keen to link up with him again.
