On Thursday, Meiko Satomura defeated Kay Lee Ray to become the new NXT UK Women’s Champion. Satomura earned the second opportunity at Ray when she filled in for the injured Xia Brookside during the five women number one contender’s gauntlet match. The win marks Satomura’s first title win since signing with WWE.

Meiko Satomura has been perceived as “The Best Wrestler in the World” since joining NXT UK and can finally say that with the title around her waist. Also known as “The Final Boss,” the second time was the charm for her beating Ray, who had just barely retained in their first outing against one another. The Sendai Girls owner will now look to pave her own path as the NXT UK Women’s Champion, becoming the fourth champion in the history of the title.
For Kay Lee Ray, this is the end of a historic championship reign. Her reign ends at a stunning 649 days. Now seeing what is next for her will be the interesting part of her career. She could very well stay put in NXT UK, but making the move to NXT seems like a reasonable one to test her abilities against the best division the company has to offer. Either way, she should do fine wherever she goes.
You can check out the new NXT UK Women’s Champion Satomura in action this Sunday as she returns to Japan to participate in the GAEAISM anniversary show.
