John Cena and CM Punk had a five-star epic at Money in the Bank 2011, with CM Punk beating Cena for the WWE Championship. Nevertheless, a tournament was created, and Rey Mysterio defeated The Miz in the tournament final on Raw’s July 25, 2011, episode for the “vacant” WWE Championship.
Enter Cena, invoking his rematch clause, and he challenged Mysterio for the WWE Championship. Cena and Mysterio’s title match was constructed well, but inevitably, Cena brought the curtain down on Mysterio’s brief WWE Championship reign.
