Preview: NXT UK (5/20/21) – A-Kid And Tyler Bate Meet For Heritage Cup

NXT UK preview A-Kid vs Tyler Bate

A-Kid and Tyler Bate meet for the Heritage Cup on NXT UK. A potentially explosive Supernova Sessions is also booked, leaving room for plenty of surprises. NXT UK will air on the WWE Network and Peacock at 8 pm GMT/3 pm EST on May 20. Fans in the UK can also watch the show an hour later on BT Sport. Here’s the full NXT UK preview card and what else could happen during the hour.

NXT UK Preview – Full Card

  • Heritage Cup Championship: A-Kid (c) vs. Tyler Bate
  • Supernova Sessions with guest Ilja Dragunov

Will Dragunov Snap On Supernova Sessions?

One of the most engaging storylines on NXT UK is Ilja Dragunov’s ongoing issues with his mind. “The Moscow Madman” has been constantly snapping during matches and inflicting more damage than he would like to opponents. He’s lost some bouts through disqualification during these rage blackouts.

He will be a guest on Noam Dar’s Supernova Sessions, in which the host is guaranteed to try and get inside Dragunov’s head. Dar, likely to be joined by Sha Samuels, will be feeling pretty smug after defeating Nathan Frazer last week. Frazer might turn up with a few choice words as he feels Samuels outside interference led to his loss to Dar. All of this sets us up for a compostable segment. Dar or Samuels tend to wind people up so much during Supernova Sessions that grudge matches are set. So, expect this edition to lead to some sort of showdown with Dragunov.

A-Kid and Bate Meet For Heritage Cup

Tyler Bate will challenge A-Kid for the Spaniard’s Heritage Cup Championship in a match that is guaranteed to get people talking. For those that don’t know, the cup can change hands in the same way as a championship title. A-Kid has held the Heritage Cup since winning an eight-man elimination tournament in November 2020.

Bate earned his latest shot at the Cup when he defeated Noam Dar at NXT UK Prelude during WrestleMania week. In the weeks since A-Kid and Bate have traded barbs back and forth. Both men hold a previous victory over the other so this will act as a rubber match. A-Kid’s victory came the last time he defended the Cup against Bate. Bate still feels he has the experience over A-Kid to get the win. A-Kid believes he is a more improved wrestler than when he lost to Bate.

In other words, it could easily go either way. It will likely go for the full five rounds.

What Else Could Happen?

NXT UK always features at least three matches so that leaves two more unadvertised bouts. We know Rampage Brown will go one-on-one with Wolfgang at some point, so could see that on this show. When Xia Brookside returns from an injury she will face Amale. Both, one, or neither of those matches could be on the card.

We can also expect plenty of vignettes and backstage interactions. Trent Seven and Sam Gradwell will probably butt heads at some point. There will be the fallout from NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray’s attack on Meiko Satomura after she won the Number 1 Contender’s Gauntlet Match.
