Joao Pedro Injury Status vs Sunderland Confirmed

With the final game of the Premier League campaign upon us there are a few doubts for Chelsea with European spots still up for grabs. Interim coach Calum McFarlane was asked about the striker before the game and provided an update.

Will Joao Pedro Start for Chelsea This Weekend vs Sunderland

Latest Update

In speaking on both the Brazilian and defender Levi Colwill, the interim coach stated that both players trained today. Things are promising and there is a hope that both will be fit for Sunday but there is still a day to go for them to make a decision.

Pedro will be a late decision made by the club, he is unlikely to start unless he proves to be fully fit, especially with the season ending on Sunday. There will be no desire internally to force him through this match and cause a bigger injury that could carry over to the next campaign.

What This Means for Chelsea

It is likely that the Blues line up against Sunderland with Liam Delap up front without any quality replacement for him. The Englishman has had a torrid time since making the move from Ipswich, only scoring twice in 1600 minutes of play time and generally proving ineffective when his side are on the ball.

Pedro missing this one would once again put the onus on someone like Enzo Fernandez to provide firepower as Cole Palmer continues his own drought. No Brazilian means a clean sheet would become a necessity to earn a good result unless someone else can find their shooting bots against the Black Cats.
