Argentina Predicted Lineup vs Mexico
How Argentina Have Lined-up Recently
Argentina tend to line up in a 4-3-3 system. Emiliano Martinez starts in goal, with Nicolas Otamendi and Cristian Romero at centre-back. Nicolas Tagliafico and Nahuel Molina play at wing-back. Rodrigo De Paul and Leandro Paredes play in central midfield alongside Papu Gomez.
The South Americans’ front line is a strong one, with Angel Di Maria on the wing, Lionel Messi playing in a floating role and Lautaro Martinez playing at centre-forward.
Argentina Recent Form and Tactics
Argentina’s tactics tend to be those of creativity and expression. The back line plays relatively high with the ball bouncing from creative player to creative player. There isn’t much of a strict attacking structure, with everyone but the wingers floating around the final third to create passing lanes and opportunities for one another. This was their downfall in the match against Saudi Arabia, as the incredibly high-line meant that all of this creativity was squeezed into the middle third.
In spite of a previously strong run of form, Lionel Scaloni’s side lost for the first time in three years against Saudi Arabia. They will look to turn this around with a performance against a Mexico side that should play a very different type of football.
Argentina Injuries to Consider
Argentina are not currently struggling with injuries. One concern before the World Cup was whether Lionel Messi would be able to perform at his best. He missed training immediately prior to the World Cup, but, whilst he was weaker than normal against Saudi Arabia, his fitness appeared to be fine. Lionel Scaloni has a full 26-man squad to choose from.
