How Manchester United Have Lined-up Recently

United’s starting eleven has been unchanged for their previous three games; Liverpool, Southampton and Leicester City – all of which have been wins. Ten Hag has opted for a mix of new signings, like Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen, with the likes of Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford, who both face risk to their place in the starting lineup.

The Reds have lined-up with Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga as their front three recently, with other attackers rotating in as substitutes. Fred and McTominay have not played alongside each other, but instead have been utilised alongside Eriksen in defensive midfield.

Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics

After a dismal start to the season conceding six goals in their opening two games, United are now on the back of three consecutive wins. Their win against Liverpool was the first time Ten Hag paired Martinez and Raphael Varane together at centre-back and the two complimented each other exceptionally.

They have since kept their place on the team-sheet and picked up two clean sheets – something the Red Devils have struggled to acquire in recent years. Martinez has also been awarded Player of the Month for August, as well as Man of the Match on two occasions.

Sancho has provided two pivotal goals for his side this season against Liverpool and Leicester. The Englishman is finally looking more comfortable in his position on the pitch for United and showing why the club forked out £72.9 million for his skillful attacking ability.

Rashford also added a goal against Jurgen Klopp’s men to see out the win and is consequently keeping Cristiano Ronaldo out of the starting striker role.

Manchester United Injuries to Consider

Anthony Martial misses yet another league game through injury. He was ruled out of opening day against Brighton & Hove Albion with a hamstring issue and is now working to recover from an achilles injury.

The Frenchman was United’s most in-form player throughout pre-season and displayed some fine footwork to assist Rashford and make it 2-1 against Liverpool. His return date is currently unknown.

Victor Lindelof is now back training and available for selection this weekend after missing four matches. Whilst it is unlikely the Swedish international will replace Varane or Martinez in central defence, Ten Hag may utilise the 28-year-old as a substitute to help combat the pressure of Arsenal’s ever-threatening forwards.
