As Jurgen Klopp has discussed balancing signings with success, Liverpool are preparing for their home clash with Newcastle United. Read on to learn who Last Word on Football predicts to be the Liverpool lineup for their clash with the Magpies at Anfield.
Liverpool Lineup Prediction vs Newcastle United
How Liverpool Have Lined-up Recently
Jurgen Klopp’s side has started the season lining up in a 4-3-3. Alisson plays in net behind Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk, flanked by world-class wing-backs in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson. The midfield features Fabinho as a holding midfielder, with Harvey Elliott playing to one side of the Brazilian and Jordan Henderson on the other.
The front line has recently been led by Roberto Firmino. Flanking the forward on the right-hand side is Mohamed Salah, with Luis Diaz bringing his Colombian flair to the left flank.

Liverpool Recent Form and Tactics
Until the match against Bournemouth, Liverpool were struggling with only two points from three matches. However, a 9-0 demolition job against the Cherries may have put an end to the club’s run of dominant form.
Part of this came as a response to more midfield control for Liverpool. Both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are strong defensive midfielders with a good range of passing, holding the fort down as Harvey Elliott plays wider and takes advantage of the strong foundation behind him. Luis Diaz is increasingly finding himself drifting inside and scoring goals, filling a parallel role to that of Mo Salah.
Liverpool Injuries to Consider
The Reds are facing an incredibly deep injury crisis. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ibrahima Konate, Calvin Ramsay and Naby Keita are all ruled out with extended injuries, with Darwin Nunez joining the list of players certain to miss out at Anfield. The Uruguayan forward is still suspended after a headbutt on Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen.
The injury list goes on even further. Diogo Jota, whilst approaching a return, is missing for the match with Thiago Alcantara an Caoimhin Kelleher both expecting a return in early September. Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott have minor niggles and could miss the match. Joel Matip is returning from injury, but may struggle to start.
