Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United Target Completes Medical at Carrington

Manchester United Target

The talk of a new goalkeeper arriving at Old Trafford intensified over the last week or so. A backup is needed for David de Gea and the club seem to have landed their man. Manchester United target Martin Dubravka has completed his medical at Carrington ahead of his move from Newcastle United, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Dubravka Is on the Verge

Several names worked their way through the wheelhouse to no avail. Tom Heaton is the current number two for the Red Devils and so their pursuit of another shot-stopper makes plenty of sense. Dean Henderson has impressed so far on his loan at Nottingham Forest, saving penalties from two fellow countrymen, Declan Rice and Harry Kane.

One Manchester United target has now hit the advanced stages of their deal. Where Kevin Trapp fell through, it seems that Martin Dubravka will not. “Martin Dubravka has just arrived in Manchester in order to complete medical tests — been told he’ll be at Carrington this afternoon to undergo medical tests as new Manchester United player.” Their next fixture is a trip to the King Power stadium on Thursday night where they’ll face a Leicester City side that are currently propping up the Premier league table.

Dubravka, the departing Newcastle United man, will make the move on “loan with £5m buy option.” It remains to be seen whether the club will look to exercise the latter part of the deal. Henderson will be vying for the number one spot in Manchester when his loan spell ends but he has already spoken of his discontent with that situation and how it has been handled.

Manchester United Target Others Before the Window Shuts

With transfer deadline day right around the corner, there are still deals to be done. Alongside Dubravka, Manchester United look to still be in the market. Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro are amongst those who have officially arrived whereas Brazilian winger Antony is in the process of being confirmed too.

Slovakian international Dubravka will likely back up the incumbent David De Gea, however, following a rough start to the 2022/23 season, the latter will likely be feeling the pressure. While the former Spain international will likely retain his place between the sticks for the foreseeable, it appears that the powers that be at Old Trafford have seen it fit to bring in some experienced competition for their number one.
