After Antony and Dubravka: Manchester United Looking to Sign ‘Insane’ £97k-a-Week Defender; Talks Already Started

Sergino Dest

According to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Manchester United are back in the market for a right-back despite initial reports that their transfer business had ended. One of the names mentioned is Barcelona’s Sergino Dest, with the Catalan giants ready to allow the out-of-favour defender to leave, with him being made available for loan.

This is corroborated by a report from Samuel Luckhurst on Wednesday morning claiming that United have already held exploratory talks with Barcelona over the potential deal.

Another Reunion on the Cards For Erik ten Hag

Barcelona are ready to let Dest go on loan with an asking price set of £17.19 million for a permanent move. The defender, who was described last year as “insane”, has fallen down the Camp Nou pecking order, having missed all of the team’s La Liga games this season. Manchester United are increasingly ready to explore the situation and an offer is set to come soon, according to Gerard Romero.

According to Samuel Marsden and Moises Llorens of ESPN, the player was initially reluctant to move away from the club and even rejected initial approaches from United. Despite the initial reluctance of the player, he is now seemingly tempted to move to Old Trafford. Any deal for Dest would be dependent on the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as reported by Marsden and Llorens.

The Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag has already recruited ex-players with the signing of Lisandro Martinez, and the club have also agreed a deal for Ajax attacker Antony, and are now being linked with signing full-back Dest.

The Old Trafford faithful are becoming increasingly impatient with the club’s lack of success in recent years. Ten Hag has seemingly gone for reunions with players he knows, who would immediately slot into his style of play.

What this Deal Means for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Currently on a salary of £97,000 per week, the American international could cast more doubt on the future of Wan-Bissaka if he were to join. The English right-back is already a second option for United, and with Dest now being linked, questions could be asked regarding the defender’s future.

Crystal Palace are currently seeking to recruit the player, and this deal would seemingly be the perfect opportunity for him to rejuvenate his career back at Selhurst Park.
