Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was involved in a car crash on Monday morning but is expected to play against Liverpool.
The Red Devils currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, only three points off Tottenham Hotspur. Their game against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening is massive. Massive not only in their hunt for Champions League football but for pride, after being embarrassed 5-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture.
Bruno Fernandes the Key as Manchester United Chase a Top Four Finish
Bruno Fernandes – An Important Role to Play
Bruno Fernandes has recently signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United. This will keep him at the club until June 2026.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder has been a revelation since moving to Old Trafford. He has come up with 35 goals and 25 assists in 81 appearances in the Premier League.
He came in during a period when United were begging for creativity and the 27-year-old provided it in abundance. During his time in Manchester, he has completed 384 passes into the final third, 199 into the 18-yard box and 209 passes that have led directly to a shot. During his first full season with the Red Devils, his 4.88 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes helped United to a second-place finish and the second most goals scored behind winners Manchester City.
His defensive work is also to be admired. Since arriving at Old Trafford the attacking midfielder has 546 ball recoveries, 62 interceptions and 1484 pressures. He has only made two errors leading to an opponent’s shot. With Erik ten Hag all but confirmed to be the next manager, Fernandes is a shoo-in to start in the Dutchman’s dynamic, high press style of play.
Can he Carry Manchester United to Fourth Spot?
Bruno Fernandes will have to play a key role in United’s run-in if the club want to regain Champions League status. The Red Devils are a team struggling for confidence and are relying on their star players to get them through games.
Fernandes himself has not reached his best form this season. However, if United are to beat Liverpool, they may need a masterclass performance from their Portuguese Magnifico.
