Chelsea have become the latest club to announce their retained and released list with four players set to depart. Among the four is notable talent Richard Olise, the younger brother of Bayern Munich star Michael Olise. He isn’t the only eyebrow-raising name being let go however.

The defender has been in the Blues’ academy system since Under-9 and has played throughout the age groups on his journey through the academy. He has been unable to break into the youth setup of either England or France with just a single England U18 appearance to his name.

He also never threatened to make his way into the Chelsea senior squad, only once making the squad for a Conference League match but at age 21 it was time to move on for both parties.
The Other Decisions
One player who did make a senior appearance is Samuel Rak-Sakyi who has surprisingly found himself being released. The midfielder showed technical ability and a comfort in a deeper midfield role in the Conference League but never made much of an impression in 2025/26. If not for the surname and family connections of Olise, Rak-Sakyi would be the main name here but the midfielder is only known to those who watched the Conference League campaign.

Jimi Tauiainen has also not been renewed after six years with the team and only one appearance on the substitutes bench. Striker Ronnie Stutter is remaining on a monthly contract which will allow him to keep training until he finds another destination. All four have been moved on as the club make tough decisions to focus on the younger crop coming through like Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Genesis Antwi, and others.
