Tottenham Hotspur Attacker Close to Summer Exit

Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete their first outgoing deal of the summer transfer window, with Alejo Veliz’s transfer to Brazilian side Bahia nearing completion, as reported by Alasdair Gold.

The striker has travelled to Brazil to finalise the deal with the Brazilian Série A club, who are part of the City Football Group network.

The move will bring an end to his three-year spell in North London, during which he made eight senior appearances and scored once.

Tottenham Hotspur: Alejo Veliz Transfer Nears After Bahia Agreement

Alejo Veliz Transfer Close to Completion

Veliz joined Tottenham Hotspur from Rosario Central for a fee of £13 million during Ange Postecoglou’s first summer in charge ahead of the 2023/24 season, but struggled for first-team opportunities in England.

The 22-year-old made eight senior appearances for the club, all from the bench, with his only goal coming in a 4–2 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion in December 2023.

Loan spells followed in Spain with Sevilla and Espanyol, where he gained more regular minutes, scoring four goals in 29 appearances during his time at Espanyol.

A return to Rosario Central for the 2025/26 campaign saw him register six goals in 24 matches, but it became increasingly clear he was not part of the long-term plans in North London.

Bahia Deal Agreed

An agreement with Bahia was reached earlier in 2026 but took time to finalise due to Veliz remaining on loan in Argentina.

The deal is reported to be worth £7.8 million, plus £871,000 in add-ons and a 20 percent sell-on clause, ensuring Spurs retain a future financial interest in the player.

Veliz is now in Brazil to complete the formalities of the move, with Bahia currently competing in Brazil’s top division and sitting in 7th at the mid-season interval ahead of the World Cup break.

The Brazilian side are a part of the City Football Group, a collection of clubs owned by Abu Dhabi United Group, Silver Lake, and China Media Capital/CITIC Capital, and joined the network in 2023.

Despite still having three years remaining on his Spurs contract, the club have opted to sanction a permanent exit.

What the Sale Means for Tottenham

Veliz’s departure frees up space in the attacking department as Spurs continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season under Roberto De Zerbi.

Although he was not expected to play a major role moving forward, the deal allows the club to recoup a fee and maintain a sell-on clause for the future.

It also represents a clean break for the striker, who struggled for consistency during his time in Europe and is now seeking a fresh start in South America.
