Crystal Palace to Target Odsonne Edouard Signing

Odsonne Edouard

Crystal Palace will reportedly switch their attentions towards signing French striker Odsonne Edouard from Celtic after they failed to agree a deal to bring Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah to Selhurst Park this summer.

According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, the Eagles are still in the market for a new centre-forward before the transfer deadline tomorrow, with manager Patrick Vieira now looking to tie up a deal for his compatriot Edouard.

Late Transfer Activity Down to Failed Eddie Nketiah Pursuit

Crystal Palace have endured a mixed start to the Premier League season under new manager Patrick Vieira. An opening-day defeat at the hands of Chelsea was followed by draws against Brentford and West Ham United prior to the international break.

Vieira has been on the lookout for ways to add more goals to his team throughout the summer, but Palace’s sudden interest in Edouard comes just a day before the transfer deadline.

The reason behind the interest is that the Eagles had been trying to sign 22-year-old Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal, but it now looks as if the young Englishman will be staying at the Emirates Stadium this season.

As such, Palace will now look to hastily put together a deal for Celtic marksman Edouard, in the hope of concluding a transfer before the window slams shut tomorrow evening.

Crystal Palace to Test Celtic Resolve Over Edouard

23-year-old forward Edouard has been heavily involved in Celtic’s start to the SPL season under Ange Postecoglou despite questions surrounding his future.

The Frenchman has started in three of the Hoops’ opening four league games, and came on as a substitute in the other. In that time, Edouard has contributed with two goals and an assist, with Celtic sitting in sixth-place at this early stage.

Prising the player away from Celtic Park may thus prove difficult for Palace and Vieira. In his time playing in Scotland, Edouard has been a consistent source of goals, having netted 86 times across 179 matches for Celtic.
