Flamengo have signed Brazilian winger Kenedy on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea. The winger moves to Brazil after signing a one-year contract extension with the Blues.
Kenedy Joins Flamengo on Season-Long Loan
Fifth Loan Move in Six Years With the Blues
Kenedy is once again on the move, this time joining Brazilian side Flamengo on loan until the end of the season. The winger will be moving back to Brazil for the first time since his move from Fluminense in 2015. The Brazilian has rarely featured for the Blues since moving to the club in 2015. He has had four loan spells during his time at the club, most recently with Granada in La Liga.
Kenedy signed a one-year contract extension with Chelsea prior to his move to Brazil. He was in the final year of his contract before signing the extension. The new contract will see Kenedy tied with the Blues until June 2023.
The Brazilian has had a dismal time with Chelsea since his move to England in 2015. After an impressive debut season, he spent the 2016/17 season on loan with Watford. He rarely made an impact with the Hornets, however, and struggled with injuries. Kenedy spent the next two seasons on loan with Newcastle United, but did little to convince the Blues’ hierarchy to give him a run in the Chelsea first-team.
The Brazilian spent the last two seasons on loan in La Liga with Getafe and Granada. He made 44 appearances for Granada last season and scored eight goals.
Andreas Pereira Expected to Join Kenedy at Flamengo
Kenedy is not the only Premier League player to join Flamengo this season. Manchester United winger Andreas Pereira has agreed a season-long loan deal with the club. The Brazilian international will be moving to his homeland for the first time in his career.
