Manchester United to Tie Joe Hugill Down to New Deal

Joe Hugill Has Impressed for Manchester United u23s

The 17-year old is highly regarded by those at Old Trafford even though he has yet to play for the first-team. He’s featured regularly for the Red Devils’ U23 side though and also featured in the EFL Trophy, where he scored the winner in a penalty shootout v Rochdale. This kind of form has caught the eye and prompted the club to tie him down to fresh terms.

The striker certainly could feature in Ole Gunner Solksjaer’s plans in the near future. Although he is still just 17, he has shown impressive talent far beyond his years and it could prompt the boss to throw him in and around the first-team squad more frequently and potentially give him a run-out in the cup.

Hugill started his career with Sunderland before making the move to Manchester last year.

Tremendous Goal Contribution Rate for Reserve Side

He shone with the Black Cats and United were quick to snap him up. Since then, he has continued to excel and he looks likely to be one of the next Red Devils’ youngsters to eventually make the step up to the first-team.

If you take a look at his stats for the club’s reserve side, you can see why so many are gushing over him.

In 18 games for the U23s last season, he bagged an excellent ten goals and two assists. That’s 12 goal contributions and an average of 0.96 goals or assists per 90 minutes – so nearly one a game.

He started out with the U18s, where he scored six goals in five games with one assist.

Manchester United Offer Joe Hugill Three-Year Deal

Albeit, the reserve side is a whole different level compared to Premier League and even the Football League but having featured in the EFL Trophy, he has already shown he can compete against clubs at that level.

United officials certainly like what they see and this deal will see him commit at least another three years to the club.

In addition to this new contract offer, Hugill is also set to train with the senior squad during pre-season – something which will be a huge boost and motivator to the 17-year old and he may even feature in some friendly games.

He will have the opportunity to put his name in Ole Gunner Solksjaer’s thinking despite his current wealth of forward options. They already have the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood to select from and Hugill would no doubt be below all of those in the pecking order.

A loan move – after agreeing to this new deal – could perhaps be on the horizon before potentially breaking into the first-team picture. The new deal gives United a sense of security over one of their most promising talents.
