Leeds United Transfer News – Barcelona Defender Junior Firpo Set to Join The Whites

Leeds United Transfer News

Leeds United transfer news has been ramping up of late, with The Whites set to complete the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona for an initial fee of less than £13 million, having beaten out competition from Italian giants AC Milan. The Yorkshire outfit were reported in recent days to be intent on completing this deal quickly, and have evidently acted as such, with Firpo’s move now looking imminent.

A Fantastic Signing

Acquiring Firpo would be something of a coup for Leeds, who were only promoted back to the Premier League 12 months ago after more than 16 years away.

The 24-year-old is experienced despite his youth, having played for both Barcelona and boyhood club Real Betis. Firpo has accumulated a total of 62 La Liga appearances, alongside 10 in the Champions League, and this experience will be vital for Leeds as Marcelo Bielsa’s side look to restore the club’s former stature.

Not only is Firpo a great addition in his own right, but Leeds have also been looking to plug a gap at left-back for some time. Gjanni Alioski has stood in well, but his future in Northern England is not yet certain, and his inconsistency means he is a slight liability. Firpo would vastly reduce this risk of error.

Victor Orta, director of football at Elland Road, has pulled off some fantastic businesses since he joined, particularly last summer when he brought Raphinha in from Stade Rennais, a move that has turned out excellently for Leeds. The likely signing of Junior Firpo certainly has the potential to be another success story, but only time will tell whether his northerly move will work out well.

Adding to Recent Business

Leeds’ recent transfer activity does not stop at Firpo, however, with the signing of Amari Miller from Birmingham City having been confirmed this Monday.

Miller is a talented right-winger who starred for Birmingham’s under 18s over the past season, while also showing himself capable of stepping up into the senior side when required.

Having graduated from Birmingham’s academy so soon after Jude Bellingham, Miller certainly has big shoes to fill.
