Memorable Moments in Liverpool Colours

Despite often being criticised during his time at Liverpool, Dejan Lovren will always be remembered for the winning goal against Borussia Dortmund. With Liverpool in need of a goal to complete a miraculous comeback in 2016, Lovren rose highest to head home the winner late on. The goal gave the Reds their first significant Anfield comeback under Jurgen Klopp and was a sign of things to come.

Liverpool released a statement upon the defender’s departure via Twitter where they said the following: “Everyone at the Reds would like to thank Dejan for his brilliant contribution over the years and wish him all the very best in his new challenge.”

With Dejan Lovren’s exit now sealed, Liverpool must turn their attention to filling the void left by the defender, whether it be through the academy or the transfer market. If solved through the academy, the likes of Ki-Jana Hoever will be presented with the chance to step up and claim a place in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

If solved through the transfer market, however, Liverpool may find it difficult to find a suitable replacement, especially with the financial impacts of Covid19. Liverpool may not be willing to spend over £20 million for the sake of a fourth choice centre back, and a player that will rarely make an appearance.

Lovren’s exit certainly gives Liverpool plenty to think about heading into next season.
