Millwall Re-Sign Ryan Woods on Loan From Stoke City

Ryan Woods

Millwall have re-signed midfielder Ryan Woods on a season-long loan from fellow Championship side Stoke City. Woods spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Millwall from the Potters and helped them to an eighth-place finish in the second tier.

Back for a Second Stint

Since joining Stoke on a permanent deal from Brentford last summer, Woods failed to really kick his Potters career into gear. It certainly was not as successful at the year he spent at the bet365 Stadium on loan in Stoke’s first season back in the Championship.

The loan move to Millwall in January provided the spark that the 26-year-old needed. He made 18 appearances for the Lions overall as they finished just two points shy of a play-off spot in the Championship – the last of which was nicked by Swansea City on the final day of the season.

Woods was a key figure for Gary Rowett’s side in the months before and after the Championship’s Coronavirus-induced break, and both parties will be hoping he can have the desired effect in a full season with the South London side.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website about his return, Woods said: “I’m really pleased it has been done so early as well. It was a no brainer, I’ve really enjoyed my time here since joining.

“I think that’s started to reflect on the pitch. I’m starting to get my confidence back, which I lacked for 12-14 months – I’m delighted to be back to myself, and I want to help out the team as much as possible going into next season.

“I’m really pleased with the last few weeks, it’s probably put me in line with the rest of the players in the League. I was a bit behind having not played much football at Stoke.”
