Wholesale Changes For Stanley

Sky Bet League One side have made their seventh addition of the summer by signing Wilson Carvalho.

26-year-old Carvalho joins Stanley on a one-year contract with the option of an additional twelve months.

The Lisbon-born winger makes the move to Stanley with a wealth of Football League experience. Carvalho counts Port Vale and Stevenage as his former employers.

Carvalho, a tricky winger, first met Stanley’s assistant manager Jimmy Bell at Vale when he was the club’s Development squad coach.

The winger has featured numerous times for Stanley in pre-season; however, it was his performance in the 2-1 win against French side Marseille that was the deciding factor in which he was offered a contract.

His pace and clever footwork to beat defenders got supporters talking on Twitter. Carvalho delivered another encouraging display in last night’s draw with Warrington Town.

Stanley boss John Coleman said: “Wilson has been on trial with us in pre-season and we have been impressed by him.

“We needed to boost our attacking choices and Wilson will provide another option for us.”

In addition to signing Carvalho, Stanley have retained Erico De Sousa on a one-year contract extension.

The former Portugal Under-19 international made five appearances for Accrington last season. 24-year-old De Sousa also has the option of another one-year deal following the 2019-20 season’s conclusion.

Speaking after signing a new contract, De Sousa said: “I’m happy to sign a new deal, obviously, I didn’t get much game-time last season but I’m glad that the manager still has faith in me.

“Right now we’re still trying to get to know the other lads that have come in, but I think we’re trying to push towards the Play-Offs and I personally believe that we can get there.”
