Furlong Becomes Fourth Summer Signing For Baggies

23-year-old Furlong arrives for an undisclosed fee and has signed a four-year deal at the Hawthorns.

The talented defender follows in the footsteps of Filip Krovinovic, Kenneth Zohore and Semi Ajayi in linking up with the Baggies.

Furlong, born in Luton, came through the ranks at QPR before signing his first professional contract in March 2014. The defender made his Premier League debut just under a year later aged 19.

The 23-year-old son of former QPR, Birmingham City and Chelsea striker Paul Furlong made 72 appearances for R’s. The defender scored twice for the West London side and enjoyed loan spells with Northampton Town, Cambridge United and Swindon Town.

A first loan spell came with Northampton Town during the first part of the 2015-16 season. Furlong made ten appearances for the eventual League Two winners.

The second half of that season was spent in the fourth-tier with Cambridge United. The defender played every minute of every league game following his temporary switch in January, helping them to a ninth-placed finish.

Furlong was sent to Swindon Town in League One the following season. The defender made 28 appearances for the Robins in all competitions before Ian Holloway recalled him to West London.

The back end of the 2016-17 season saw him make 14 appearances. The following season was more productive for Furlong as he made 24 appearances.

The 2018-19 campaign was his most successful in terms of appearances. Under Steve McClaren and caretaker John Eustace, Furlong contributed 29 fixtures in all competitions.
