The first European final is upon us, and it’s Freiburg vs Aston Villa in the Europa League final at Beşiktaş Park, Istanbul, kick-off 8 pm GMT.

Freiburg would make history tonight should they win, as they have yet to win a major trophy in their almost 122-year history. Can this young, free-scoring team take the final step and become club legends?

Out: Yuito Suzuki (above) is out with a collarbone fracture sustained against Wolfsburg at the beginning of the month.

Apart from Suzuki, Freiburg boss Julian Schuster has a full strength squad to choose from “That’s no given, playing three times a week,” Schuster said. “A huge thank you to all our trainers, doctors, physios.”

Schuster also spoke about their journey to Istanbul. He said: “It is very special. We’ve recently been in the second division and now are going to play a European final. I have so much confidence in my team, and they give me that belief because there’s so much quality. I am not nervous, we have the confidence we need to play a great team and a great coach tomorrow.”

Out: Boubacar Kamara (Knee injury), Ross Barkley (Ineligible), and Alysson (Ineligible)

Doubt: Amadou Onana will be assessed before the game, and a late call is expected to be made as to whether the midfielder can take part.

Ahead of the game, captain and hero of the semi-final, John McGinn (above), spoke about the final and how proud he is.

“We want to be focused on this match. We know how good Freiburg are. We know how difficult it is to get to a final. So, we’ll treat them with the utmost respect, like they deserve, and we will only build as a club if we keep doing the same things that we are doing.

“But, if you ask on a personal level, after all the years I’ve been here, it definitely is the proudest moment as captain.”
