Premier League Club Set To Advance In Pursuit Of £35 Million Leicester City Star

Relegation to the Championship has left many Leicester City stars wanting out, especially when considering the looming points deduction. Danish international Mads Hermansen is a valuable asset who will likely want to depart, considering his age and interest elsewhere. The goalkeeper joined the Foxes under Enzo Maresca back in 2023 and helped the club to instant promotion. Despite a successful tenure in the East Midlands, this Leicester City transfer update suggests a move back to the Premier League could be on the cards.

Mads Hermansen: West Ham To Make Approach

As reported by both Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs, the Foxes are awaiting an approach for Hermansen from West Ham. The goalkeeper’s value stood at a lucrative £35 million last summer, but with the club now in the Championship, the value may falter.

In addition to this, Marti Cifuentes’ side have also held talks with Asmir Begovic. The veteran shot stopper has made over 250 Premier League appearances, and most recently featured for the Spaniard’s QPR side.

Changes within City’s goalkeeping ranks comes as no surprise this season. Jakub Stolarczyk seems ready to become number one, whilst the likes of Danny Ward, Daniel Iversen and Brad Young all departed this summer.

How Does This Affect Leicester City?

Although losing Hermansen seems like a negative due to his on-the-ball abilities, it could be a real positive. We already know from various reports that the club need to sell, so that they can buy new players. Therefore, any fee generated, could seriously bolster the squad, especially with a need to replace Jamie Vardy up front.

As mentioned prior, Stolarczyk is more than ready to take the reins, and has already made a strong start to pre-season. With him becoming the number one, Cifuentes won’t feel the pressure of finding a Hermansen replacement.

In the case of Begovic, he may also prove to be an astute piece of business, depending on the factors. The Bosnian international is now a free agent following a stint in Merseyside with Everton. If the wage package remains reasonable, then Begovic may become a positive fit for the squad. He provides experience for younger goalkeepers like Stolarczyk, Stevie Bausor and Jake Donohue, whilst also being a good enough option if called upon.

Furthermore, due to the departure of goalkeeping coach Jelle Ten Rouwelaar, the 38-year-old may also succeed him in this role in the years to come.
