Chelsea Now Favoured ‘Option’ For ‘Low Block Breaking’ Attacker

Chelsea don’t appear to be done in the summer transfer window despite already adding Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. They are now considered the “most concrete option” for a Bundesliga attacker according to league expert Florian Plettenberg.

Chelsea The Most Concrete Option in Xavi Simons Saga

Serious Interest

According to Pltettenberg, talks have already started between the Blues and Xavi Simons’ camp over a move with the English club already holding a strong interest in the young attacker. Because of that uncertainty, talks have yet to start with Leipzig over a fee which will likely only start once there’s approval from the player’s representatives that he does want to make the move. What will be encouraging for Chelsea fans is the Dutchman wants out of Leipzig and will be more eager to make a move happen.

What Could He Bring

The 22-year-old Dutch international is a seasoned pro at higher levels already, having made his mark for PSV and more recently in the Bundesliga. Connor Holden recently broke down the strengths of the attacker and pointed out something that will appeal to Blues fans. Noted for his “low block breaking qualities” the forward is a counter-presser, good passer, and a versatile tactical fit for Enzo Maresca’s evolving system.

Simons can operate on the flank or by moving centrally, this is a role similar to what Christopher Nkunku has played but with more explosiveness and dribbling power. He could stretch the pitch or come inside to operate alongside Cole Palmer or Enzo Fernandez in the space around the box, depending on the tactical requirements.

With his attacking weapons and the ability to break down stubborn defences, he could prove to be a strong piece of business for Chelsea if they can get the deal over the line.
