‘Almost There’: Chelsea Closing in on Signing £50m Attacker

Chelsea are currently competing in the Club World Cup, but the West London club are still looking ahead to the current season and where they can strengthen their squad. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich are not involved in the pursuit of Jamie Gittens, with Chelsea ‘almost there’ in their chase for the winger.

Despite having two bids turned down by the German club, Chelsea are expected to return with an improved offer, with Dortmund looking for at least £50 million, with the payment structure seen as a key factor in reaching an agreement.

Chelsea Target New Winger

Jadon Sancho returned to Manchester United following a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are now looking for a right-footed winger who can play on the left, and Gittens fits the profile needed by Enzo Maresca.

Gittens would give Maresca’s team balance in attack. He scored 12 goals last season but fell out of favour since the arrival of Niko Kovac. The 20-year-old’s profile is perfect for Chelsea, with his ability and youthfulness, a perfect fit at Stamford Bridge.

Gittens is at his best when progressing with the ball at his feet. He is direct and fearless with the ball and should bring a directness that the Stamford Bridge faithful will appreciate.

His consistency will need to improve at Chelsea, and he will need to prepare himself for the physicality of the Premier League. He undoubtedly has plenty of attributes, but is a work in progress and will need to be given time to make his mark in West London, should the deal be completed.
