Chelsea are currently in the Club World Cup, integrating some of their new players, such as Liam Delap and Dario Essugo. Despite Enzo Maresca adding some more pieces to his squad, it appears the Blues are looking to strengthen further ahead of the 2025/26 season. According to a report in The Athletic, after L’Équipe reported, Chelsea have made a verbal enquiry for Lyon winger Malick Fofana.
Chelsea Look to Strengthen Squad Ahead of Champions League Return
Chelsea Explore Move for Malick Fofana
Chelsea ended the last season on a high, defeating Real Betis 4-1 to win the Europa League Conference League, while finishing 4th to return to the financially lucrative Champions League. Despite the difficulties the team encountered, they finished the season on a high and the squad seems to be taking shape ahead of next season, with the club already bringing in new players.
It appears the transfers at Stamford Bridge have not finished with the club looking to bring in a new winger following the exit of Jadon Sancho, who returned to Manchester United. Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to Manchester United to get out of the £25m obligation to buy him.
Fofana has been capped once by Belgium and enjoyed an impressive campaign in Ligue 1 for Lyon last season. The 20-year-old Belgium international 11 times and provided six assists in 41 appearances in all competitions. He was an instrumental part in Lyon’s run to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Chelsea Priorities This Summer
The summer transfers at Stamford Bridge are seemingly not done, with the club linked with AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and Borussia Dortmund’s winger Jamie Gittens. Both players were linked with joining the club before the Club World Cup but the deals were not completed in time.
It remains to be seen who else will join the West London club this summer, but it appears Enzo Maresca is slowly assembling a world-class squad.
