Last Word on Football brings you the latest Sunderland transfer rumours, with the Black Cats reportedly close to signing highly-rated French left back Dayann Methalie from Toulouse. According to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, personal terms have been agreed, with a fee, likely to be around £25 million, currently being discussed.
Sunderland have moved slowly this transfer window and are determined to bring in quality additions over quantity as they prepare for a new season, which will also include European football for the first time since 1973.

With Dennis Cirkin leaving this summer, a new left-back to compete with Reinildo was a priority, and it appears that the Black Cats have got their man, beating rivals Newcastle United to his signature. The 6ft 1in, 20-year-old fullback who can also play centrally is a France youth international who likes to attack but also possesses physicality, stamina, and defending skills, making him strong at both ends of the field.
Sunderland Transfer Rumours: A Different Summer to Last on Wearside
Methalie follows experienced defender Thomas Meunier into the Stadium of Light with Regis Le Bris looking to add another three or four players to his squad before the season gets underway.
Earlier in the transfer window, Le Bris said: “It’s a bit different this summer. Last season, we had to sign 14 new players and this time we’ll probably go for six or seven.
“It’s half of the job we’ve done last season, so it’s going to be different. More precise, which is good because we have a strong foundation. We never know because the market is slow this season. It’s better to wait and to take the right decision rather than rushing anything.”
