Chelsea Confirmed Lineup - image of Reece James and Jadon Sancho

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Djurgardens for May 1

This is a Chelsea predicted lineup for their Europa Conference League clash with Djugardens on May 1. This will kick-0ff the semi-final tie between the two sides with the 3Arena in Sweden playing host to the first leg on an artificial pitch. The poor quality on the field could see the Blues boss rotate heavily to protect his best talents for the Premier League run-in.

How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen split goalkeeping duties depending on the competition. The back line has seen some shakeups with Marc Cucurella, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah, Josh Acheampong, Reece James, and Moises Caicedo all starting across the back line recently.

James and Caicedo have also played in midfield with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez also playing in those spots. Attacking-wise wise Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Tyrique George, Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, and Nicolas Jackson share the four attacking roles.

Chelsea Recent Form & Tactics

Enzo Maresca has continued using the fluid 4-2-3-1 setup that rarely stays as that, it tends to morph into a 3-2-4-1, a 3-3-4 or a 2-2-5-1 depending on the players used. Recently, he’s one way from the box midfield to a diamond with more options in and around the box instead of it just being a 2-2 box to retain possession. This has often seen Cucurella invert from left back to either a left winger or an attacking midfielder, Enzo pushes up from the pivot to a box crasher, and one full-back either steps up to help defend high or tucks in with the lone pivot player left behind.

Despite some of the negative energy around the club, the Blues have only lost once since the international break with back-to-back wins in the league coming into this one. They’ve refound their goalscoring touch and at times look competent defensively. They’ve mostly strolled through the Conference League and should be able to graft out a result here regardless of the pitch quality.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

The club announced a 23 player travelling squad which excludes Sanchez, Nkunku, Lavia, Wesley Fofana, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Marc Guiu. Some are injured while Mudryk is suspended and Lavia isn’t registered for this competition.
