Manchester United Discover Obstacle in Race for ‘Superb’ Defender After First Proposal

Manchester United are trying hard to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad in the ongoing January transfer window and they appear to have found a response on their attempts to sign Serie A sensation Patrick Dorgu.

What Did Lecce Say About United’s Aims To Signing Dorgu?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils had direct talks with the representatives of Lecce in Milan on Tuesday (January 21) in an attempt to get an agreement over Dorgu’s transfer. He also added that the two parties failed to strike an agreement, with the Premier League side only offering around £25.2 million for the 20-year-old’s signing.

Romano also claimed that Lecce are asking for a transfer package of around £33.8 million to sell their defender and that Napoli are also keen about signing him. However, the Serie A side’s representatives have not given their opinion on the Red Devils’ attempts to sign him and their stance on his future.

Speaking about the Danish full-back’s future, Lecce president Sticchi Damiani stated: “We met with Manchester United and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu. We’re delighted to have Manchester United here to make a proposal but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial.”

Are United Looking Into Anyone Else Apart From Dorgu?

It could be tough for Amorim’s side to sign the 20-year-old defender with Lecce not being keen on letting him leave in the winter window. It has been reported that the Red Devils also have Bournemouth man Milos Kerkez and PSG full-back Nuno Mendes on their left-back wishlist, but they’ve only made serious advances to sign Dorgu among all the options.

The reason why they’re pushing hard to sign the Denmark international is probably because of his versatility. The 20-year-old is naturally a left wing-back, but can also play on the right side and has excelled as a right-winger for Lecce. Dorgu, who has been hailed as “superb”, has scored three goals and provided an assist in 20 Serie A games so far this season.
