Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils are now ready to open formal talks with Lecce over the possible signing of the 20-year-old full-back in the winter transfer window, but that no bid has been submitted so far for his signing. It’s also stated that United consider Dorgu to be “high on the list” of left-back targets alongside Bournemouth man Milos Kerkez and PSG full-back Nuno Mendes.

The journalist also claims that the 20-year-old is personally very keen on the transfer and that the Italian club want a fee of around £29.6 million for the young defender’s sale. The Athletic’s David Ornstein has also reported that dialogue is progressing between the respective clubs over a possible move and that Ruben Amorim is keen on reinforcing his squad in the January window after facing a shortage of quality options in the wing-back positions, with Luke Shaw yet to get over his injury-prone nature.

The 20-year-old is a Denmark international who has made four appearances for the Danish national team where he’s gotten to know Manchester United stars Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen pretty well. Dorgu has been earning attention for his heroics in Serie A, as he’s managed four goal contributions (three goals, one assist) in 20 league games so far in the 2024/25 season and helped them to four clean sheets too.

Dorgu is a very versatile player who can play in multiple role for his team. He is naturally a left wing-back, who can also play on the right wing-back role and even slot in as a full-fledged winger if necessary as well. Pantaleo Corvinho, Lecce’s sporting director, hailed his energetic presence by claiming earlier this season and stated: “He is a potential champion. Correction: he is a champion.
“Whether as a full-back or winger, he runs for three, has an eye for goal, and possesses an engine unmatched by anyone else.” The 20-year-old has been hailed as an “elite team player” in the past and can bring some much-needed energy and power to the Red Devils’ wide areas if they are able to sign him.
