Leicester City shot-stopper Mads Hermansen has been a revelation for the Foxes in what has been a tough start to the season. With his great form, it comes as no surprise that the likes of Manchester United are monitoring him.

Who is Mads Hermansen?
The 24-year-old Danish goalkeeper rose through the ranks of Brøndby IF before becoming their number one in 2021. He went on to play over 60 games for the club before sealing a move to the recently relegated Leicester City. Under Enzo Maresca, he would play a huge part in his sides’ eventual promotion. 13 clean sheets and 41 goals were conceded over the campaign, but it was his on-the-ball abilities that made him stand out.

As for this season he has been relied upon much more as he has already faced 94 shots this season. Despite having just one clean sheet, his shot-stopping has been phenomenal considering the defence in front of him and the volume of shots faced.
He’s second in the league for saves per 90 with an average of 4.2 and top for goals prevented with 4.4, which shows how pivotal he has been to the Foxes. Performances like the one against Arsenal really emphasise how good he has been this season and the potential he has at a top team.
Potential Moves?
As revealed by John Percy, the Danish international is seen as the most likely player to be sold by Leicester City due to his great season so far. He added that rival clubs are aware of his “potential availability” and that Manchester United’s chief goalkeeping scout Tony Coton, watched him in action last month in a 2-2 draw with Brighton.

Manchester United under Ruben Amorim is a promising project compared to his current situation at Leicester as his side currently sits 19th. However, competition for his signature is more than likely. Enzo Maresca is a huge admirer of the goalkeeper after their time together last season, as the Italian said last season : “We won many games this year because of Mads,”.
Therefore with the Blues’ struggles to find the right keeper, a move for Hermansen wouldn’t be a surprise. With Leicester’s PSR issues, a reduced fee for the shot-stopper could be found as the club could be forced to sell.
Why Manchester United?
As a club with a rich history Manchester United is always a team that players want to go to regardless of their disastrous perfoamnces so far. Andre Onana is currently fourth for clean sheets in the league with six, but his underperformance in other metrics is a factor as to why the Red Devils are looking elsewhere.
Onana is 17th for save percentage with 64.6% compared to Hermansen, who is 12th with 67.7%. This is despite having a poor backline in front of him and facing more shots. Furthermore, the goals prevented statistic also shows Hermansen’s superiority. He is top of the league for this stat with 4.4, whereas Manchester United’s man is fifth with 2.5. The mistakes that have cost his side points this season could lead to Onana’s dismissal as the 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest is a perfect example.

Also on the ball is where Hermansen thrives. In the Championship, he was averaging 47.18 passes a game which shows how comfortable he is in being an option for defenders in the build-up phase. This season his distribution has been poor but this is due to his side not playing out of the back as much. Therefore, he has had to kick it long much more often, which doesn’t play to his strengths.
