Striker to join Sunderland: The Black Cats look set to sign a highly-rated striker from Chelsea on loan until the end of the season.

Chelsea’s 20-year-old striker Mason Burstow is set to complete a loan move to Sunderland according to reports. The Sunderland Echo and The Athletic have reported that Burstow is at the Academy of Light finalising a move to Wearside.

The young forward has been in and around the Chelsea first team this season. He came on as a substitute against both West Ham United and Luton Town and started in the EFL Cup against Wimbledon.

Ross Stewart is expected to complete a £10 million move to Southampton today, therefore, the signing of Burstow will come as a relief to both the club and their fans.

Mason Burstow came through the ranks at both Welling United and Maidstone United. He moved to Charlton Athletic in 2020 continuing his development before signing for Chelsea in 2022.

The highly-rated striker was sent back to Charlton on loan where he played 23 times in all competitions. Last season he stayed at Chelsea playing 25 games for their development squad scoring 10 goals. He went on to be a part of the first-team squad during pre-season before featuring in the Premier League and EFL Cup.

Busy Transfer Deadline Day at Sunderland

It is set to be a busy day on Wearside ahead of the transfer window closing at 11 pm. Sunderland could lose striker Ross Stewart and winger Patrick Roberts. Midfielder Elliot Embleton is reportedly a loan target for Derby County according to the Sunderland Echo, while Dan Neil has been monitored by Liverpool. Experienced central defender Danny Batth could also be allowed to leave according to reports.

Tony Mowbray, Sunderland’s head coach may get his wish for a busy deadline day. With several players possibly leaving, reinforcements are required. The Black Cats are closing in on several players including three central midfielders and two strikers.
