Romano adds that it is expected that Bentancur will return to action after six or seven months, which is the timeframe needed to recovery from such an injury. That means the Uruguayan midfielder will not be able to play in the 2022/23 season anymore and will only return at the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

The inexperienced Pape Matar Sarr was brought on to replace the Urguguyan during the Leicester game and could make his Champions League debut against Milan. Oliver Skipp is another potential option to play in midfield, but neither of the two young midfielders posses the threat of Bentancur – who had eight goal contributions for Spurs this season (six goals, two assists). The 25-year-old midfielder labelled ‘fantastic’ and ‘one of the most underrated players in the world’ by teammate Dejan Kulusevki has made 26 appearances for Tottenham this campaign.
