Erik Ten Hag Praises Diogo Dalot and Gives Update on Potential Right-Back Signing

Ten Hag Pleased With the Performances of Dalot

Dalot has earned a lot of praise this season from fans for his admirable performances for the Red Devils. He has scored one goal and provided an assist, but maintained a strong balance in his defensive and offensive contributions. That has allowed him to keep playing over Aaron Wan-Bissaka, their £50 million signing, who is yet to make a single appearance for the club this season.

Speaking about the Portuguese defender’s performances this season, Ten Hag said: “I hope he keeps progressing, not only stick to this level. We’re really happy with the development of Diogo. Our approach, our philosophy, is that good is not good enough. We have to do better. But we’re happy with the development and the performances of Diogo, that’s quite clear.”

Ten Hag Opens up on Potential Right-Back Reinforcement in January

There is a general feeling that the Old Trafford outfit need to sign a new right-back that can compete with Dalot as well as give him a chance to be rested for a few games. Diogo has played the entirety of all 12 Premier League games this season and there is a risk of him being burned out or suffering an injury.

When asked about the potential of United trying to sign a new right-back in the winter transfer window, Ten Hag said: “I know that every club among the top elite clubs needs competition and I think we can replace him, with Victor Lindelof, with Tyrell Malacia and luckily also Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in the squad.”

The Red Devils are reportedly looking to sign a new full-back in January and looking at Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong as a potential option. They do probably need to improve their depth in right-back options, so that Dalot could be rotated on occasion and also to improve the competitiveness of the squad.
