De Gea Willing to Make Major Sacrifice to Extend His United Stay
The 31-year-old goalkeeper currently has an extremely lucrative contract at United, with a rumoured weekly wages of £375,000, which also makes him one of the highest-paid members of Erik ten Hag’s squad. With such a significant salary, United may not be so keen on giving De Gea another long-term contract with such a huge salary, especially with cheaper options Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson already on the books at the club.

However, The Athletic adds that De Gea is willing to make a sacrifice on his wages to ensure that he remains at Old Trafford for many years to come, with the former Spain number one confirming the same in an interview. The Red Devils are hoping to negotiate a new contract for him on much-reduced wages, which the goalkeeper could be open to discussing.
De Gea’s Time Under Erik ten Hag Recapped
De Gea has been an ever-present figure under Ten Hag and played every game so far for the Red Devils in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Europa League, not letting summer signing Martin Dubravka get any minutes. He has made 17 appearances for the Manchester side this campaign, keeping 8 clean sheets and conceding 19 goals. That includes 5 clean sheets in the last five games at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper played a crucial role in his side’s 1-0 win over West Ham United at the weekend, producing some incredible last-minute saves. His heroics earned him praise from fans and Ten Hag, who dubbed him as ‘magnificent’. De Gea seems to be the uncontested no.1 at Old Trafford for the foreseeable and is looking to retain his position by staying at the club for many years to come.
