Manchester United in Talks to Extend Promising Star’s Contract

Manchester United appear to be planning for the future under current manager Erik ten Hag, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club are working on extending the contract of their young prospect Alejandro Garnacho.

Manchester United Keen to Extend Alejandro Garnacho Contract

Who is Alejandro Garnacho?

Garnacho is an 18-year-old Spanish-born Argentine winger who joined the Red Devils when he was just sixteen years of age in September 2020.

Since that date, the winger has excelled in United’s youth setup and has steadily been developing over the last two years, helping the U21 side win the 2021/22 FA Youth Cup, and bagging himself the competition’s golden boot in the process.

His excellent displays at youth level have impressed Ten Hag, and the Dutchman handed the Argentine his first start in the senior team in the club’s recent Uefa Europa League clash against FC Sheriff. After the match, his manager was full of praise for Garnacho, saying: “I think it was a good performance from him. He did what I expect him to do. First, he deserved a chance in the last weeks.

‘The start was difficult for him in the season, I was not happy with him. But the last weeks I was happy with him. He’s had a better attitude, more resilience, more determination.

“And what you see he has the talent to deal with the ball in tight areas, to run behind, and especially also his tempo dribbles, he can take on players and that is a good ability in football nowadays, especially against opponents who are defending as compact as this opponent.

“So I’m happy with that. I hope for him it is a stimulus, the first game, and that he knows that he has to do better to get into the team, to create more.”

Garnacho’s Current Manchester United Deal

The winger’s current contract with the Red Devils expires on June 30, 2023, which means that the club is at risk of losing him for free come the end of the season. However, given Manchester United’s confidence regarding the situation, as well as the apparent admiration current boss Ten Hag has for the Argentine, it appears likely that the club will reach an agreement with Garnacho before that happens.
