300+ Goal Man is ‘Now Very Close’ to Joining Chelsea

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports has issued a brief but telling update on the transfer negotiations to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea.

In a follow-up to a Tweet of his own from August 22 indicating that the two sides were negotiating a straight-cash deal, he issued the following update: “Aubameyang to Chelsea is now very close and is a straight-cash deal.”

With just days remaining in the Summer transfer window, it looks like the London side is going to get a deal done to bring in a striker after losing Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in this window.

Goalscoring Ability

One thing that Thomas Tuchel’s side definitely lack is a goalscoring threat. Kai Havertz was the joint top scorer in 2021/22 with 15 goals across all competitions, which isn’t enough for a team hoping to compete on all fronts. One thing that the Gabon international guarantees is a scoring touch, as he’s had a good strike rate basically everywhere he’s been.

Even at 33 years old he has proven to have the ability to put the ball into the net, something that should be utilised fully when surrounded by Chelsea’s creative attacking forces.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Aubameyang’s scoring record throughout his career has been something to behold. He first came to prominence while playing for Borussia Dortmund, where he played under Tuchel for two seasons, and ended his career there with 141 goals in 213 games. He made a successful move to the Premier League for Arsenal where he tallied 92 strikes in 163 appearances.
