Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea Rivals Also Chasing £60 Million-Rated Star With ‘Fearless Attitude’

Anthony Gordon

Chelsea are not currently the only team who are interested in signing Everton winger Anthony Gordon, reports Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are pushing for his signing and want to get it done before deadline day, but London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested.

Chelsea Continuing Pursuit to Sign Anthony Gordon

Thomas Tuchel’s Side Not Only Team Interested in Gordon

Romano reports that the London side are expected to have a busy end to the transfer window, which closes on September 1. However, they aren’t the only team that is interested in signing the Everton winger. Tottenham Hotspur are also inquisitive in signing the 21-year-old but are yet to make a concrete offer for him.

For the time being, Chelsea are the only team serious about signing him and have had multiple bids rejected by the Toffees as well. But Romano adds that negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs as Thomas Tuchel’s side are quite eager to get a deal done soon.

Gordon has already agreed personal terms with the London side, adds Romano, and it could cost the Blues around £60 million to complete the deal. That is of course a huge amount for a player with four goals and three assists in 52 appearances in his Premier League career so far, but Chelsea are willing to go the extra mile to secure the move.

Todd Boehley’s Long-Term Vision for Chelsea

In their first summer transfer window under the new ownership of Todd Boehly’s consortium, Chelsea have shown a very interesting strategy when it comes to buying players. They have signed a couple of experienced players – Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli – but remain focused on young talents.

Marc Cucurella was roped in from Brighton & Hove Albion for a massive £63 million, but the other signings have all been focused on talents that will be used in the future. Indeed, the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Gabriel Slolina and Cesare Casadei are all part of Boehly’s long-term project to set up a menacing Chelsea in years to come.

Gordon is also rated as a player who can become world-class in the future, which is why the Blues are pushing for him. The 21-year-old was praised for his ‘fearless attitude’ by Premier League legend Alan Shearer recently and such characteristics are probably the reason why the London side are so intent on signing him.
