The latest twist in the Antony saga has emerged as the player has reportedly asked Ajax to cooperate with his desire to make a move to England.

Mike Verweij is reporting that “Antony has officially asked Ajax to cooperate in a transfer to MUFC”. According to a report from Laurie Whitehall of The Athletic, this transfer could end up costing the Red Devils £85 million as a compromise.

Erik ten Hag Reunion

A common theme of this transfer window has been Erik ten Hag getting linked with former players. While some he has signed, like Lisandro Martinez, and others have not materialised, looking squarely at Frenkie de Jong, it has been a common story throughout the window.

The 22-year-old Brazilian would be another signing that the Dutch manager is already familiar with, having played for Eredivisie champions for two seasons.

A Threatening Forward Presence

One thing that characterises the £85 million man is his attacking prowess. It was first showcased for Sao Paolo in Brazil where he scored six times in 45 appearances in the 2019 season.

His quality caught the sights of those at Ajax and he was signed for just £13 million in 2020. During his time playing in Holland, he continued to showcase the attacking flair that he is now known for, netting 11 times and 12 times in the 2020/21 and 21/22 campaigns respectively.

What’s impressive about that second tally is he scored one more goal despite making 13 fewer appearances than the year before.

Despite only playing three games so far in the 22/23 season he has continued his impressive goalscoring exploits with two strikes to his name in those three appearances.
