Fabrizio Romano: Barcelona Are Ready to Push for Premier League Defender Once Labelled as ‘One of the Best in the World’

Barcelona Are Ready

Barcelona are ready and now looking to push for the signing of Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, confirms Fabrizio Romano. This is even having recently beaten the Premier League side to the signing of Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

Barcelona Are Ready to Push for Cesar Azpilicueta Signing From Chelsea

Azpilicueta Eager for Transfer but Respectful to His Side

The La Liga giants are not done yet with their summer business even after making some blockbuster acquisitions. They will now move forward to try and get the Azpilicueta signing done after pursuing him all throughout the summer transfer window.

The Spanish defender himself wants the move to Camp Nou as well, confirms Romano. However, he will not go on strike or put in a transfer request to really push through a move as the Chelsea captain wants to remain respectful to his club.

Xavi Hernandez wants to add a new right-back to his squad even after the Kounde signing. While the French international can also operate as a full-back, Barcelona wants to add a bit more experience to their backline and believe that Azpilicueta – once named as ‘one of the best defenders in the world’ by Antonio Conte  – can be an ideal person for that.

Barcelona’s Transfer War With Chelsea in the Summer

The Spanish giants have had quite the summer transfer window so far, making some real statement acquisitions. The biggest one involves roping in Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. But Barcelona have also been involved in a mini-war of sorts with Chelsea in the transfer window.

While it initially looked like Ousmane Dembele might join Thomas Tuchel’s side as a free agent, the Blaugrana were able to convince him to re-sign with them and reject a move to England. Raphinha was also initially linked to a move to Stamford Bridge, only for Barcelona to swoop him out of nowhere.

The latest move of this ‘battle’ has seen the La Liga side convincing Jules Kounde to join them, despite him being close to a move to Chelsea at one point too. After whatever has transpired, the London side might not be too eager to discuss transfers with Barcelona and could make it very difficult for them to pry away their captain Azpilicueta from them.
