Marc Cucurella to Force Manchester City Move With Transfer Request

Marc Cucurella

Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella has handed in a transfer request following interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, as per Fabrizio Romano

The 24-year-old has been on manager Pep Guardiola’s transfer list since the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal. The ongoing issue in the talks between clubs is the fee, as Graham Potter’s side have added a hefty price tag to their man. He played 35 matches across the league last season, netting one goal and contributing one assist.

Romano confirmed: “Marc Cucurella has just handed in a transfer request at Brighton.”

He added: “No agreement between Manchester City and Brighton on the price, negotiations are difficult but still ongoing. Final decision on clubs’ side expected soon as there’s still a big gap in valuations.”

The news came after there was speculation of City “walking away” from a deal. After having a £ 30 million bid rejected, Brighton insisted they would not accept any offer below £ 50 million – around £ 10 million above City’s valuation of the defender.

Cucurella has been pushing for the move throughout the transfer window, with Manchester set as his ideal destination. The transfer is also Guardiola’s priority this summer; Joao Cancelo is able to cover the left-back position for the upcoming season, however, an injury or suspension would leave City scrambling for cover for the left side of their backline.

The Perfect Fit:

As a La Masia graduate, the Spaniard is already trained similar to Guardiola’s standards and expectations. He would be the perfect fit for this relentless City team, and even more so why the owners are willing to wait and meet Brighton’s demands.
