Real Madrid Striker Likely Headed Out on Loan

Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is set to join Fiorentina on loan this coming season, according to Fabrizio Romano. Fiorentina are very confident in the deal, and a medical is likely to be scheduled soon. Los Blancos will pay a part of the player’s salary along with the Italian side.

Much to Prove

Jovic moved to Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt for £52 million (€60 million) in 2019. He was expected to quickly become a star, although that hasn’t panned out yet.

The fanfare made sense, however. In 2018/19, a young Jovic scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 32 Bundesliga matches. He also wreaked havoc in the Europa League, scoring 10 goals in 14 matches. Before Eintracht Frankfurt, Jovic played for Benfica, typically known as a hotbed for talent. Jovic’s ascent up the football ladder looked apparent.

Jovic has three La Liga goals with Real Madrid to his name in the last couple of seasons. He even returned to Frankfurt on loan in 2020/21, but only scored four goals in 18 Bundesliga matches.

Perhaps the big move to Los Blancos came too quick, as Jovic’s growth has stunted. The loan and performances while back with Frankfurt also showed that the player was lacking confidence.

Fiorentina presents a fine opportunity for the Serbian. First off, Serie A is becoming an increasingly attacking league. The chances will be there for Jovic to score. Fiorentina also have a number of players, such as Arthur Cabral and Sofyan Amrabat, who will complement Jovic in the attack. Finally, Fiorentina is filling the void left by Dusan Vlahovic after he left for Juventus in January.
