Newcastle United Sven Botman Hopes Remain Open

The possible Newcastle United Sven Botman deal remains open with Eddie Howe’s side retaining high hopes. According to The Athletic, the club believes Botman may still choose them over other clubs showing interest. AC Milan are one of the clubs attempting to acquire the Dutch centre-back and seem to be the main competitor for Newcastle. One thing is certain – Botman will be departing Lille this summer.

Newcastle United Sven Botman Move Still in Progress

A Stellar Young Defender

Botman holds all the tools necessary to succeed in the back line of a defence. He’s only 22-years-old and has shown top playing ability in top competitions. Botman was part of Lille’s 2020/21 Ligue 1-winning campaign, and as a result he also gained valuable Champions League experience this season. In addition, he’s making his way onto the Netherlands National Team.

He’s very comfortable in possession, which will be key should he make the move to Newcastle. Botman will be pressured by football’s top strikers week-in and week-out, so he will need to remain composed and collected. He also has a physical type of play – almost reminiscent of former Dutch centre-back star Jaap Stam. Like Stam, Botman also dominates aerial duels.

Newcastle are now looking to emerge as a top team in the Premier League after new ownership arrived. This past season, the club finished in 11th place. Their new standards, due to the fact that they’ll likely be acquiring more and more talent, will be a lot higher. One of the first steps, of course, will be building a dominant defence. The club sees Botman as the key for this, and for good reason.

Lille likely won’t be open to selling for cheap. They value Botman highly as he’s starred for them. Milan will continue to add pressure to Newcastle as well as the Italian giants have been tracking the player for quite some time.
