Major Boost In Real Madrid Goalkeeper Pursuit

The Real Madrid goalkeeper pursuit of a young prospect is getting hotter. A couple of days ago, it was reported by Fabrizio Romano that Los Blancos were preparing an opening bid for Gabriel Slonina of the Chicago Fire in the MLS.

Now, Romano is reporting that Slonina’s agent, Jaime Garcia, is also pushing for the deal.

Real Madrid Goalkeeper Dream of Gabriel Slonina is Increasingly Likely

A Major Young Talent

“We hope Chicago can find an agreement with Real Madrid to realise Gabriel’s dream of playing for Real,” said Garcia. “With respect to other clubs and other offers – you can’t say no to Real Madrid.”

Garcia also says that it would be an honour for Chicago and the MLS as a whole to have Real Madrid swoop in for one of their players, further adding pressure for a potential transfer.

Real Madrid currently have Thibaut Courtois in goal. He’s fresh off an excellent season and outstanding performance in the UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool. He also signed a contract extension less than a year ago.

Courtois is 30-years-old, which tends to be in the “younger” range when it comes to goalkeepers. With that being said, Real Madrid target young talent all the time. In fact, the club loves to plan for the future.

Slonina just turned 18-years-old last month. His entire career is still right in front of him. There’s understandable doubt when a player joins a major European club from the MLS, but starting and succeeding in any league at such a young age is impressive.

In addition, more and more American players are seeing success in Europe. The United States also boasts two goalkeepers playing for major English clubs – Zack Steffen with Manchester City and soon Matt Turner with Arsenal. Slonina is certainly a project for the future, but one Real Madrid looks keen on taking on.
