Mohamed Salah Intends to Leave Liverpool for Premier League Rivals

Mohamed Salah

According to reports from The Athletic, Liverpool have a fight on their hands if they want to keep star man Mohamed Salah from joining a rival club. The 29-year-old has a deal with Liverpool until the end of next season but beyond that, his future with the club is up in the air. The Athletic claims that Salah intends to leave Anfield if Liverpool don’t significantly improve their contract offer, and is keen on remaining in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah Open to Liverpool Departure Next Summer

What’s The Story

The two parties are currently unable to agree terms for a new contract.

While Salah is more than happy to stay with Liverpool, the club are not willing to offer the wages he desires. Despite the two sides having been in negotiations for almost 12 months now they are no closer to an agreement.

If terms can be agreed, Salah would be happy to sign a two-year extension, but only if it were one that would make him one of the highest-paid players in the world. If they do not find a compromise then Liverpool will lose one of their best players on a free transfer.

This lines up with a recent shift in the footballing world towards prioritising free transfers. With Liverpool set to sell Sadio Mane, losing Salah is the last thing they will want.

Salah Has Leverage

The former Chelsea man has all the leverage in this situation. Since joining Liverpool he has become one of the best players in the world, and is a pivotal part of Liverpool’s resurgence in recent years. A three-time golden boot winner, 2021/22 playmaker of the season, and 2017/18 Premier League Player of the season, Salah has scored 156 goals in 254 games for the Reds and assisted many more.

Salah believes that his wage demands aren’t unreasonable, and his output suggests that he’s right. The “Egyptian King” has been one of the best players in the world for years now, and this year he wants to be paid like it. If not, he will join a Premier League team who can offer what he wants.
