Paris Saint-Germain Forward to Leave the Club This Summer

Paris Saint-Germain forward

Paris Saint-Germain forward Angel Di Maria is likely to part ways with the club this summer. Reports suggest that PSG are likely to decide against triggering a one-year extension on the Argentine’s contract. He could leave Paris with fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, with both his and sporting director Leonardo’s futures being considered.

The French Giants drew with Lens on Saturday to win Ligue 1 for the eighth time in ten years. However, it hasn’t been a great season for PSG. They threw away a two-goal advantage in the Champions League against Real Madrid and their star signings haven’t hit form. Fans have been unhappy with how their club is being run. Angel Di Maria himself has only contributed two assists in 2022 and has had an underwhelming campaign, being in the shadow of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Where Will Angel Di Maria Be Next Season?

Juventus are interested in Angel Di Maria and early reports are that they will offer the Argentine a one-year contract. Negotiations are still going on about the potential of an optional second year. However, Benfica, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested.

There is a storyline with these clubs too. The winger made 76 appearances for Benfica before a €25 million move to Real Madrid, arch-rivals of both Barcelona and Atletico. He spent four years at Los Blancos, winning La Liga and the Champions League.

His Career at PSG

Angel Di Maria has scored 91 goals and has 117 assists in 291 games for PSG. In his seven years in France, he has won five Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups and four French League Cups. Often not being the star name, he always performed on the biggest stages. He provided the joint top assists in the competition in PSG’s run to their first Champions League Final in 2020. Even with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe this season, Pochettino has often tried to fit the Argentine in.

But it is the end of Angel Di Maria’s career at PSG. He will be a marquee signing for whoever can pick him up.
