Barcelona Forward to Restart Contract Talks

Barcelona Forward

Earlier this month we found out Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele could renew his contract. Until now an agreement couldn’t be found. However, Ousmane Dembele’s agent arrived in Barcelona today to restart renewal talks.

Fabrizio Romano reports: “Ousmane knows that staying at Barca could mean losing money, as he already received better proposals. But Dembele has not decided yet, he’s happy with Xavi – Barca will try to find a solution to improve their bid.”

Contract Talks to Restart as Barcelona Forward Future Remains Uncertain

Further Discussions to Take Place

Ousmane Dembele’s agent and the Barcelona board will further discuss the contract in the coming days to try and find a solution. Both parties need time to decide what is best for their respective futures.

Dembele has been in superb form under Xavi, who wants to keep the winger around, with both Chelsea among those to have shown interest in the winger. The Frenchman is in demand this summer, leaving his agent in the driving seat in negotiations with the Catalans.

The Options for Barcelona

Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Ousmane Dembele has been plagued with injuries. He has only featured 146 times for the club, scoring 32 and assisting 32 in that time. In January, the Frenchman was heavily linked with a move away and was expected to leave at the end of his contract this summer. But in this new era, under Xavi, he has shone. It’s clear he is becoming an important member of the Xavi’s future plans. Ferran Torres recently joked he would kidnap the Frenchman to make him stay at Barcelona.

Robert Lewandowski is one of many being linked with a move to the Nou Camp this summer. Barcelona could be better off freeing up the wage bill and bringing in replacements that are less susceptible to injury.
