Zlatan Ibrahimovic Suffers Further Injury Setback

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The injury woes continue for AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The Swedish striker is dealing with a knee strain that will keep him out for ten days at the very least. This is a crucial stretch for Milan, who risk missing out on Italian glory due to scoring mishaps. Milan have already lost a veteran presence in Alessandro Florenzi, so this is yet another blow.

Ibrahimovic will surely miss Friday’s match against Genoa, where Milan will need a victory to keep their Scudetto hopes alive. In addition, he will miss the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals versus city rival Inter Milan. The first leg ended in a goalless draw.

There’s a chance that Ibrahimovic could return for the match against Lazio on April 24. Lazio are a strong opponent and Milan will need all the help they can get when facing them. The good news here is that the Swede has already begun treatment on his knee.

A Season Marred With Injury

Expectations were once again high for the seemingly ageless Ibrahimovic this season after success last season. He scored 15 goals and provided two assists in 19 league appearances and was a major factor in Milan’s long-awaited return to the Champions League.

Father Time has shown his hand this season, however. Ibrahimovic continues to deal with different ailments and those have affected his performances when he’s available. In 19 league appearances, Ibrahimovic holds eight goals and two assists to his name. Many of these appearances, however, have come towards the end of matches in return from injury. Due to this, he’s only seen 937 minutes on the pitch.

His absence has severely affected Milan’s title hopes. The Rossoneri go on swings of constant victory, then disappointing results. A lot of these disappointing results, however, are draws where the team plays great defence but simply cannot score. The lone striking option is now Olivier Giroud who is also getting up there in age.

This season’s injuries present an issue for Ibrahimovic’s future who, despite the ongoing injury problems, is eager to continue his career.
